“I have been working with Kate as my sport psychologist since 2006. When I was a young athlete she helped me with organisation, planning and goal setting. In 2010 I was struggling a lot with my confidence when racing so I started working more with Kate, and she helped me build back a lot of lost confidence after a bad start to the season. I was setting easy targets for myself and Kate pushed me to want to do better, not settle for top 20 but look to be top 10, then top 5. Kate helped point out mistakes I was making but which were very easily fixable, and using those skills I qualified for the 2012 Olympics. After the disappointment of finishing fourth in London, we looked to Rio and what we needed to do differently. I had a tough four years leading up to 2016, but Kate was always able to help me and listen to my fears without ever judging me. Having the same team with me at my second Olympic Games was really important and we all knew how to handle the pressure of an event like this better than before. Kate helped me to keep level headed and stick to all my important processes every day. I’m really lucky to have had such a great sports psychologist over my sporting career, without whose help I probably would have never have been pushed to do better than I thought I was capable of.”
